Personalized Medicine
Is DNA Testing For Me
Personalized medicine or pharmacogenetics gives your healthcare providers information about your unique DNA that can help them select the best dose and drug for you. Research shows that genetic factors are more important than other factors that alter your response to drugs such as age, sex, weight, and general health.

- You plan to start antidepressantsand want to reduce the time and trials spent finding the right drug and dose
- You are planning for a surgery or dental procedure for which pain medication, such as codeine, would be prescribed.
- You are considering Coumadin (warfarin), tamoxifen, or 5-FU.
- You have a chronic health condition such as cancer or heart disease and need to take medications for an extended time.
- You plan to take a medication with an FDA warning about gene interactions such as Strattera.
- You are Caucasian, Asian, Saudi Arabian or Ethiopian.
- You are taking five or more medications
Pharmacogenetic testing has to be done only once, and can be used for a lifetime by your healthcare providers to guide safer and more effective prescribing.
