Learn more about currently available tests
DNA Drug Sensitivity Testing™, also known as pharmacogenetics, is so new that many healthcare providers don't know much about it. Clinicians, of course, are busy caring for their patients and don't have time to read the thousands of pages of research coming out in such a rapidly growing field.
Help yourself and your healthcare provider by asking about pharmacogenetic testing and helping them to find out if it's something that you and other patients can benefit from. To help you and your clinician decide whether DNA Drug Sensitivity Testing™ is right for you, please print the following educational resources and bring them to your healthcare provider:

If your physician feels that DNA Drug Sensitivity Testing will benefit you, follow this simple 3-step process.
1. Have him or her complete the prescription form, and call 800-523-3080 to obtain a collection kit.
2. Submit a cheek swab sample for DNA testing using the provided kit.
3. Review the results with your physician. A 90-day subscription to your personalized GeneMedRx software account is included with your test results to help you and your physician understand interactions between all of the medicines, herbals and over-the-counter medicines you take. The GeneMedRx report can aid your physician in making decisions about altering the dosage or form of drugs prescribed to you to prevent treatment failures and adverse drug reactions.
Concerned about the costs?
Medicare will always cover the full cost of testing for 2D6, 2C9 and 2C19 testing if your physician feels it is medically necessary, and we must bill them directly. Private insurance covers testing 70% of the time. The main reason for private insurance not covering testing is that genetic testing is not covered at all, you can easily find this out by calling the number on your insurance card and asking if genetic testing is a covered benefit of your plan.
